Tax Update – E-Filing Requirement Reminder

As a reminder, beginning in the 2023 tax year, the IRS is requiring all taxpayers filing 10 or more information returns to file electronically.

To accommodate this, the IRS has created a new free online portal, Information Returns Intake System (IRIS), for you to file your returns electronically. Information returns, including Form 1099s, meeting the 10-or-more threshold can be submitted through this system. Included in this email are links to our alert and the IRIS Taxpayer Portal User Guide (Publication 5717). This guide gives important information regarding IRIS, including the 1099 forms that can be filed through the system, instructions for getting set up on IRIS, and a guide to help navigate the portal.

We urge you to please register for IRIS immediately, as the 2023 tax year-end is approaching and the IRS notes that it may take up to 45 calendar days for application processing.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Should you request our assistance in meeting your 1099 filing requirements, please contact us no later than December 15, 2023, so we can determine how we can best assist you.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss the information in this update, please email Danelle StewartCharles MarstonWilliam Hall, or Connie Blatt or call 724-934-0344 (Cranberry Township, PA office) or 304-233-5030 (Wheeling, WV office).
